Laser Hair Removel - A Comparison with Electrolysis

Laser surgery and Electrolysis is based on the same principle, what it does is it renders the hair

follicle unable to grow hair. With electrolysis each follicle has to be sent a low current of electricity to render it inert. In laser hair removel the follicle is rendered inert but the patient does not need a needle to come close to every follicle, the laser is able to do its job one facial area at a time. The ability to work by area instead of per follicle makes laser hair removel less tedious than electrolysis and the absence of needles make it less stressful for some to go through.

Both these methods are considered by the Food and Drug Administration as “permanent reduction”.  This means that at the very least the treatments will not get rid of all the hair in a given area 100%, but what electrolysis and laser hair removel does do is reduce a greater number of it and the subsequent treatments will make the amount of hair less and less. This means that one will not be completely hair free in any area after only one treatment.  As many professionals will tell you hair growth involves different stages and the effectivity of these two methods will depend on the stage of growth the hair is in. This is why there needs to be more than one session because the probability of all the hairs to be in the optimal stage is of course very small. There will always be a percentage that will not be in the proper stage.

Price wise in comparison with non-permanent hair removal methods the laser and electrolysis methods might seem so very expensive. It may look that way initially but if we take into consideration that with permanent hair removal you only need to have it done for a limited number of sessions but with non-permanent treatments like depilatories it is a process you will have to perform and pay for regularly.  For example in a 5 year period one might expect to spend around $1500 for waxing, $1300 on electrolysis and $2700 on laser treatment. All these have their pros and cons so to weight them according to your needs would be the deciding factor.
